Evacuation Planning Training & Exciting Volunteer Opportunity!
Mark your calendars for our next monthly meeting on May 1, 2024, because we've got something special planned. The Austin Fire Department (AFD) will be joining us to discuss emergency evacuation planning. Held at the Jollyville Fire Department from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, this will be a great discussion.
๐ Save the Date: May 1, 2024 ๐
Date: May 1, 2024
Time: 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
Location: Jollyville Fire Department, 9218 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas 78729
Parking: Please park in the shopping center next to the fire station and walk to the front door.
Chief Rob Vires from AFD recently sat down with Council Member Kelly to discuss their efforts in regional wildfire evacuation planning. From tackling wildfires to ensuring everyone's safety, they're revolutionizing the process. And guess what? They want our CERT Team to be a part of it!
But that's not all. We're also extending an invitation to a volunteer opportunity on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Joint public safety agencies from Austin and Travis County are hosting a full-scale exercise focusing on civil unrest and election security.
Picture this: protestors causing a stir outside a Travis County Election building, with some even chaining themselves to the entrance. Then, a gas attack orchestrated by a domestic violence extremist group adds to the chaos. It's a test of our public safety personnel's readiness and response capabilities.
We're looking for 10 volunteers to play various roles, from rowdy protestors to patients in need of triage. The exercise will take place at the Travis County Expo Center from 0800 to 1200.
If you're eager to get involved, reach out to Nolan Screen at Nolan.Screen@austintexas.gov.
Let's seize these opportunities to learn, grow, and serve our community together!
